Gluten free cookies can be hit and miss. But these gluten free wafers were a delicious treat, much to my surprise. Sugar wafers are usually not my cookie of choice, and I really picked up this box of cookies on a whim. The wheat free aisle had slim pickings today, and the chocolate image was calling out to me. So I took a risk and picked up a box.
After trying several gluten free cookies, I had expected these sweet treats to be more like a traditional sugar wafer. I thought they would have a super sweet, cheap sort of flavor. But I wanted a wheat free cookie — let’s be honest, it was a long day and chocolate seemed like a great idea — so I bought them anyway. Surprisingly, the Glutino Gluten Free Wafers reminded me of a popular candy bar that I haven’t enjoyed in a really long time.
These gluten free wafers a satisfying crisp crunch that hit the sweet spot. With a thick, chocolate consistency, these wheat free cookies tasted like candy bar, not like a sugar wafer. The rich, chocolate taste combined with the sweet crunch will definitely be my go-to gluten free snack the next time that chocolate is calling my name.
They do go stale quite quickly though. So if you buy these Glutino wafers, make sure to finish off the whole box, or wrap them tightly to keep the air out.
Be careful, it might be easy to finish off the whole box!
Note that these wafers are gluten free and wheat free. But if you have other allergies, beware. They contain milk and soy, and they have the dreaded “may contain” label that warned of eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. While I have found the perfect gluten free treat for myself, I’ll have to keep them away from my peanut and nut allergic children.
